K-Electric’s football team qualified for AFC Qualifiers after lifting the Pakistan Premier League Title
Karachi, 6th August 2015: K-Electric issued a press statement regarding the upcoming AFC Qualifiers held in Bhutan. K-Electric’s football team secured a slot at these qualifiers after claiming the Pakistan Football League title earlier this year and played an exhibition match against some members of the Pakistan Cricket Team which was captained by Younis Khan. This is the first time the 17 member squad from KE will be attending the AFC qualifiers. They will be playing their first match against Bhutan’s Druk United on August 11th and Mongolia’s Khoromkhon FC on August 13th.
The exhibition match was held at a Training Camp at the Steel Mill Housing Complex. K-Electric’s football team was captained by Essa Khan, former captain of the Pakistan Football team. On the other side, Younis Khan’s team included Cricket team members such as Asad Shafiq, Anwar Ali and Pakistan’s wicket-keeper and batsman Sarfaraz Ahmad. The match was a draw as both teams scored three goals. From team Essa Khan, Habib, Walikhan and Rasool scored one goal each. Scorers from Team Zabe Khan Eleven included Asad, Wali Khan and Rehman, each scoring one goal.
The match was also an excellent opportunity for KE’s UK-based recruits, Shani Abbas and Irfan Khan to showcase their talent and display the teamwork that had been inculcated in the squad by their coach Majid Shafiq.
“I’m pleased that K-Electric has the distinct honor of representing Pakistan on this prestigious international forum,” said KE’s Head of Sports Marketing and Brand Activation Zabe Khan. He added “The training camp has been a tremendous exercise in bringing the team together and ensuring they are at their optimum for the matches.”
Usama Qureshi Chief of Staff & Chief Marketing Officer, K-Electric present at the match handed Team Kits to each cricketer and on the occasion stated “We felt it was important to have our team meet and engage with the cricket superstars. The Cricket team has had a remarkable run recently especially against Sri-Lanka and given that Younis Khan, Sarfaraz Ahmad, Asad Shafiq and Anwar Ali were KE talents some time back, we felt that sharing their experiences and tips will motivate our players to emulate the same standard of excellence. We are confident of a solid performance as AFC Qualifiers and wish them well”.
