All Industrial Areas of the City Have Been Exempted from Load Shed for the Last 6 Years: Spokesperson
Karachi, October 02, 2015: K-Electric issued a press statement in which the power utility showed its concerns over the recent judgment of the Honorable Sind High Court on captive power complaints and the role of NEPRA.
The spokesperson added “K-Electric has been providing uninterrupted power supply to the industrial areas of the city for the last 6 years and these areas have also been exempted from any load shed. We are consulting our legal experts over the judgment to decide whether to ask the Honorable Sindh High Court to review its own decision or alternative file a fresh appeal before the Supreme Court where other appeals of captive power producer cases against KE have been pending for the last two years.”
KE expressed its confidence that since the Honourable SHC had allowed NEPRA to continue its proceedings on the captive power complaints, that NEPRA would take a holistic view of the situation keeping in view the competing needs of residential and power consumers for gas supply in competition with industrial/business groups who are diverting gas for their own business requirements at the expense of the ordinary consumer.
K-Electric is continuing its efforts to improve its power generation, transmission and distribution network and capabilities. In the past six months, it has signed an agreement with Siemens and Shanghai Electric valued at USD 400 Million to upgrade and improve its transmission network and cater to the future needs of its consumer base, whether commercial, residential or industrial.
