In a statement, KE Spokesperson explained that TV and internet cables which are installed without following any safety protocols become safety risks especially during inclement weather conditions heavy rainfall and gusty winds, often resulting in sparking due to short circuits which result in fire and damage to KE’s infrastructure. In the interest of public safety, KE has been removing these encroachments from its network across the city.
Spokespeson further clarified that internet and tv cable operators are provided advance notice of maintenance activities prior to removal of their encroachments, but unfortunately no corrective action is taken. KE continues to engage with cable operators including PTAPA for a sustainable and amicable resolution of the matter via a working group which was established under the patronage of the Commissioner Karachi. However, despite repeated promises and assurances from cable operate to rectify their network, no progress has been made. This includes commitments to shift TV and internet cables underground by the end of 2020, which remains incomplete.
