Marriage Hall, Plastic Factory, Cable Service Provider, Commercial & Residential connections caught stealing electricity and victims penalized – K-Electric Spokesperson
Karachi, January 20, 2016: K-Electric has released a statement regarding the ongoing Operation Burq Campaign where raids were conducted against electricity thieves and chronic defaulters in major parts of the city.
According to details more than 3000 illegal connections were removed from areas where electricity theft was high, whereas some of these areas had previously resisted K-Electric’s anti-theft campaign. Raids were conducted in the areas of Orangi, Korangi, Lyari, Johar, SITE and Gadap amongst many others such as Clifton, Korangi, Malir and Landhi . During these raids a marriage hall along with major commercial and residential connections were found stealing electricity from an illegal cabling system and meter tampering and those involved were penalized via a theft bill/penalty.
As per the statement, a plastic factory located in Orangi was found using electricity illegally via a hook connection of 16 mm directly from KE’s main line and due to the heavy load K-Electric incurred losses of millions. Moreover, a cable service provider and a marriage lawn in the same vicinity were also found stealing electricity from the main pole-mounted transformer (PMT).All those involved were penalized by KE’s team and further investigation is underway.
In another raid, in the area of SITE, 300 kundas were disconnected and pulled down. A gaming zone, milk shop, bakery and a general store were also raided in Johar from where illegal hook connections were removed. A park located in Gadap was also caught red-handed involved in direct use of electricity illegally and penalized while more than 70 kundas of 48Kg were pulled down in the area.
On the other hand more raids were conducted in Malir, Lyari and Bin Qasim areas against residential and commercial theft of electricity.
