Non-paying customers warned with strict action after May 15
Karachi, May 10, 2015: KE along with the FIA and law enforcing agencies has launched a massive campaign called Operation Burq against defaulters and those who are involved in any form of electricity theft across the city. In its press statement, KE said that the defaulters have been granted an amnesty by the power utility to pay their outstanding dues before May 15. KE further said no legal action will be taken against those power thieves who voluntarily step up and report any discrepancy with meters to the concerned Integrated Business Centers (IBCs) or Response Center-118.
“We want to inform with great pleasure that many consumers have supported KE in this campaign. We are committed to honest customers and therefore it’s important to eliminate the major obstacles in our way to provide better-quality service to our consumers,” Spokesperson KE said.
However, consumers who haven’t taken advantage from this amnesty should not feel left out as they still have an opportunity to get their meters corrected and pay their bills before May 15, KE’s spokesperson notified.
Once the amnesty period is over, KE along with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other law-enforcement agencies will commence a full-fledged action against power thieves and defaulters through Operation Burq.
Electricity theft is a non-bailable offence and offenders involved in such act will face severe penalties including three years imprisonment, a fine of Rs.10 million and property confiscation under Inland Revenue Act.
