Karachi, June 2, 2015: Operation Burq has gathered pace and KE’s team along with the Law-Enforcing Agencies (LEAs) have been working round the clock to curb the menace of illegal connections and power theft so as to improve the electricity network that comes under K-Electric.
According to details released by the power utility more than 40 raids were conducted today which includes the areas of Baldia, Sadr, Garden, TIpu Sultan, Orangi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, Bin Qasim, Gadap, Malir, Johar, Gulshan North Nazimabad and FB Area.
More than 4,000 illegal connections were confiscated by the KE team which weighed over 1,200 KG from different areas. KE’s team along with the FIA has made arrests and FIRs against those involved in electricity theft have also been lodged.
A molding factory in a commercial area of Orangi was raided with FIA where theft was caught and majority of penalty charged was paid by owner. On the other hand a Transport Service running on an illegal connection was also raided. Investigation has commenced against the influential party whereas arrests have also been made.
The LEAs along with KE’s team raided the Allah Walah Market, Bazerta Lane and the Railway Colony and arrests have been made against those involved.
KE’s spokesman said, “It is sad to learn that schools, hospitals, colonies and major commercial users along with influential parties have been caught. We have to set an example as no one can take the usage of electricity for granted. We as a power utility are trying out level best to improve our network but we need help from all our consumers in this regard”.
