Hazards of Kundas Highlighted at Awareness Session for 2,000 Riaz Chowk Residents

Karachi, 5th October 2019: K-Electric organized a customer facilitation camp at Riaz Chowk in Korangi, under its flagship community development project, Ujala. More than 2,000 residents visited the camp where they were warned about the safety hazards created by illegal kundas for the entire community and especially children. Over 300 residents also received free eye-checks and medicines at the camp and were also facilitated through easy payment plans to enable them to easily transition towards a a legal and safe power supply source.

Spokesperson K-Electric said, “The camp’s basic objective is to discourage the use of kundas which is not only illegal, and a punishable offence, but also poses a severe threat to the area residents and their families.”

KE teams urged the local community to support the ongoing conversion of old cables to the upgraded and theft-resistant Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC) so that the area could also get relief from faults and trippings load-shedding.

Project Ujala is progressing swiftly in areas of Orangi, Lyari, Korangi, Landhi, Malir. Around 330 communities have been engaged benefitting 5.4 million lives through access to safe and reliable power. More than 70% of the city has already been exempted from load-shed, as more than 7500 PMTs have been converted to ABC.

Under K-Electric’s Project Ujala free health camp, games for children, new connection, billing settlements and on the spot payment facilities were arranged in Ujala mela for the residents of Riaz Chowk area, Sectors 48-B, C and D in Korangi.
