Karachi, 12th August 2016: K-Electric has issued a press statement condemning the attack against its teams following yesterday’s incident in the Marvaari Muhalla, Garden Karachi.
Giving details the press statement said when K-Electric’s team went to check and remove illegal hook connections in Marvaari Muhalla on Thursday, they faced resistance. During inspection of suspected theft, residents of the Sharifa Bibi building stormed KE vehicle and assaulted the team. As a result 3 members of the KE team sustained injuries whereas a fourth one had to be rushed to Civil Hospital.
Spokesperson KE said shared, “We strongly condemn physical violence in all form and manner against anyone. Our teams are dedicated to serve the people of Karachi. However, incidents like this affect our ability to carry out routine tasks. Yesterday’s unfortunate incident is a glaring example where one of the attacked team members is still undergoing medical treatment. We are making all efforts for his full and speedy recovery. We will also be exploring legal action against the offenders.”
KE’s statement added that this was not the first time that the utility providers teams had come under attack. Last month protestors attacked KE’s office in Baldia. Similar episodes in Malir, SITE, Clifton and other areas during the past few weeks have also gone unreported. K-Electric appeals to general public, city officials and media to take a stand against violence of any sort and condemn untoward incidents taking place against its teams in different parts of the city, which has sadly become a norm.
Such attacks should be condemned at every level, KE spokesperson reiterated.
