Karachi, 8th May 2015: K-Electric has always been at the forefront as far as supporting Sports is concerned and as per KE’s press statement, the power utility has successfully launched another sporting event, the Under-19 Cricket Tournament which will commence on the 9th of May till the 15th of May at the Rashid Latif Academy located in Korangi. This event has been organized in collaboration with I Am Karachi and the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA).
According to details this tournament will have representation from all 7 zones of Karachi along with an extra team that would be nominated by the KCCA itself and called I am Karachi XI. There will be 2 groups of 4 teams each and all the teams would be playing against each other and fight their way to the finals. The final day/night match would be telecast live on Geo Super where the Winners would be handed a check of PKR 100,000, whereas the Runners-up would be handed a check of PKR 70,000. K-Electric is providing all the cricketing gear to the teams along with Kits. There would be a total of 13 matches of 30 overs that would be played and KE believes that some of these Under-19 stars would make their way to the National team in the future.
During the press conference Chief of Staff and Chief Marketing Officer for K-Electric Usama Qureshi said, “This is in continuation to the Lyari League that recently concluded and we will continue to promote sports in Under-privileged areas such as Lyari Orangi and others. We want this younger generation to focus on Sports instead of other illegal activities through the platform KE provides”.
KCCA President Ijaz Farooqui said that, “We are thankful to K-Electric for showing its commitment and being a part of this as we need such Corporate Houses to step forward and promote Sports in the country. These youngsters from here go on to represent the National Flag which makes us proud”.
During the event I Am Karachi’s representative said, “This is a step towards the right direction and in these difficult times we appreciate companies like KE stepping forward to do this. We hope these young stars go all the way and if everyone plays their role then a lot could be achieved so as to secure the future”.
