Government office along with an illegal water pump raided and caught red-handed in power theft – KE Spokesman
Karachi, June 15, 2015: In a recent raid conducted by K-Electric, the entity exposed an illegal control room in Lasbella, which was found supplying power to hydrants.
In the early hours of dawn, K-Electric with the support of Law Enforcement Agencies – Police, FIA and Rangers while conducting a raid against power theft uncovered an illegitimate control room that was found supplying electricity to hydrants. They were caught red-handed and found guilty of stealing more than 0.2 million units of electricity from K-Electric that mounts up to 400KW of power supply of electricity per month.
According to the KE press statement, this illegal control room had been established for many years and were stealing electricity from the entity to supply power to water hydrants, an area which KE could not take action against previously due to law and order situation. Followed by the raid, with the assistance of Law Enforcement Agencies, three culprits were arrested on the spot, further investigation is underway and the illicit operation alike a mafia gang has been shut down. In another raid across the city, a Government office located in Malir was found involved in using electricity illegally. KE’s team penalized those involved and investigation commenced instantaneously. While in the area of Gadap, an illegal water pump was raided which was being used for agricultural purposes near Ibrahim Baloch Goth. Four arrests were made from the area of Malir and Korangi whereas illegal connections were removed instantly with the help of Pakistan Rangers.
As per details more than 80 raids were conducted and more than 6,000 Kunda (illegal) connections have been pulled down with the help of the FIA, Police and Pakistan Rangers.
A garment factory was raided along with a professional Doctors’ resident in the area of Clifton, involved in electricity theft; A milk and a chicken shop along with a residential building in Keamari was raided, culprits were apprehended on the spot and two FIR’s lodged against those involved; A few residential complexes were targeted in the vicinity of Johar where houses were found running on a huge load illegally; Noman Grand City Project was found involved in electricity theft in the area of Johar whereas almost 2,000 illegal connections were pulled down from Mehran Town and Allah Wala Town; Additional raids were conducted in North Nazimabad and North Karachi against residential and commercial electricity thieves and FIR’s lodged and culprits in taken into custody; In the area of Gadap residential projects along with residential apartments was raided as caught red-handed and investigation had commenced.
According to KE Spokesperson, ‘The raid under Operation Burq, is an emblem of our determination and persistent efforts. The discovery of an entire control room supplying electricity to water hydrants, the Government office involved in power theft and the illegal water pump are clear examples of the effectiveness of Operation Burq and the necessity of many such campaigns in a bid to combat illegal hook connections and defaulters of KE.
