- Mr. Shaheryar Chishty grew up in Pakistan in a military family. He moved to Hong Kong in 1997 as an investment banker and set up AsiaPak Investments in 2011 which has become one of the leading infrastructure investors in Pakistan. Key group companies of Asiapak Investments include Daewoo Pakistan (Pakistan’s leading transportation company and pioneer in urban bus and light rail transport, including leading the drive for electric city buses and clean LNG based buses for inter-city transport replacing polluting diesel buses), Thar Coal Block 1 (a CPEC “early harvest” project consisting of 7.8 mln tons per annum coal mine and 1,320 MW mine mouth IPP with expansion into coal to chemicals) and Waste Management Limited (for urban waste collection, transport and future waste to energy projects).
Prior to starting Asiapak, Shaheryar had a long career as an investment banker in Hong Kong at Citigroup and Nomura. At Citigroup until 2009, Shaheryar served in various senior roles including as Head of Asia Industrials, and Head of North Asia Mergers & Acquisitions. From 2009 to 2012 he worked at Nomura International in Hong Kong first as Asia Head of Industrials Investment Banking then also as Global Head of Industrials Investment Banking. During his 18-year investment banking career, Shaheryar was one of Asia’s most prolific deal makers having raised over US$18 billion in debt and equity capital for clients and transactions, and advised on completed mergers & acquisitions transactions valued at over US$60 billion.
Shaheryar has served as a member of Pakistan’s CPEC Business Council, a member of the Advisory Council of the Chief Minister of Punjab and the Government of Pakistan nominated Chairman of National Power Parks Management Company Limited (a non-executive role on a pro-bono basis). Shaheryar has previously served as the Government of Pakistan nominated Chairman of Lahore Electric Supply Company, and member Board of Directors of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company, Islamabad Electric Supply Company, Gujranwala Electric Power Company and Multan Electric Power Company, all non-executive roles on a pro-bono basis.
Shaheryar graduated summa cum laude from Ohio Wesleyan University, USA in 1993 with a major in Economics and a minor in French and Accounting. He is currently based in Lahore.
